Biography

Evelyn Ankers was a British-American actress who became a leading lady in 1940s American horror films. Born in Valparaíso, Chile, to British parents, she trained at London's Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and made her stage debut at ten in the title role of The Daughter of Dolores in Colombia. She was known as the Queen of the Bs for films such as The Wolf Man (1941) opposite Lon Chaney Jr., The Ghost of Frankenstein (1942), Son of Dracula (1943), Weird Woman (1944) and The Invisible Man's Revenge (1944). Other credits included Hold That Ghost (1941), Sherlock Holmes and the Voice of Terror (1942), The Pearl of Death (1944) and Jungle Woman (1944). She left the screen at 32 after appearing in over fifty movies from 1936 to 1950, and later took occasional television parts, including saloon owner Robbie James in a 1958 episode of Cheyenne. Her final film was No Greater Love (1960).
