Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Curt Siodmak said his brother, director Robert Siodmak, had him pushed off the film over a sibling rivalry that began in Germany, where Robert ran a magazine and wanted only one Siodmak writing for it. Curt said the rift lasted 71 years.
- Director Robert Siodmak, then on a $150-a-week contract, called the script terrible and only took the job because his wife urged him to; three days into shooting, Universal offered him a seven-year contract.
- Universal sent the script, then titled Destiny, to the Production Code Administration for approval on December 29; it was rejected on December 31, so a further draft went in on January 4, 1943, and delayed shooting.
- Alan Curtis, originally cast as Frank Stanley, was replaced on set by Robert Paige after Curtis hurt his knee while filming the closing scenes of Flesh and Fantasy (1943).
