Plot summary
An examination of the horror films that came out of America in the 1960s and 1970s, and of how those movies spoke to the anxieties of the society around them. The directors behind the pictures talk about making them and about the contemporary events the films answered to, while scholars interviewed alongside them give their own readings of the same work. The documentary was written for viewers who had enjoyed The Blair Witch Project, to place the independent horror of those two decades in context. Its stated aim was to slip a history lesson to young horror fans and to spur a younger generation into filmmaking and into civic life. Legal rights problems kept some titles out, among them the Friday the 13th series.
