Biography

Elliott Reid was an American actor whose career began in radio and expanded into film, television, and the stage. Born in Manhattan, he attended the Professional Children's School and made his radio debut in 1935 on The March of Time. He worked regularly in radio dramas, including The Mercury Theatre on the Air, and adopted Elliott as his stage name. His best-known film role was private detective Ernie Malone in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953), a performance Variety praised. He played Professor Shelby Ashton in the Disney comedies The Absent-Minded Professor (1961) and Son of Flubber (1963), and appeared in The Wheeler Dealers (1963), Follow Me, Boys! (1966), and Blackbeard's Ghost (1968). On television he was a regular on That Was the Week That Was and played Warren Winslow on Miss Winslow and Son (1979). Reid was also an impressionist known for his John F. Kennedy impersonation, and his Broadway credits included Julius Caesar, Macbeth, and Two on the Aisle.
