Blackbeard's Ghost (1968) on Netflix

Plot summary

Blackbeard's Inn, built from the timbers of ships wrecked in the bay, belongs to the Daughters of the Buccaneers, elderly women who claim descent from the pirate's crew. They are paying off a mortgage before Silky Seymour, the local crime boss, can take the land for a casino. Their new lodger is Steve Walker, hired to coach track at Godolphin College, and he meets Jo Anne Baker, a professor who wants to help the women keep the inn. At a charity auction Steve outbids the college football coach for a bed warmer once owned by Blackbeard's tenth wife, Aldetha, a reputed witch. A book of her spells is hidden in its handle, and the spell Steve recites brings Blackbeard's ghost to him, cursed to limbo until he performs a good deed and visible only to Steve.
