Plot summary
In 1930, Lem Siddons is a saxophonist in a traveling band who dreams of becoming a lawyer. When the band reaches the town of Hickory, he leaves it and settles down, taking a job as a clerk in John Everett Hughes's general store. At a civic meeting he sees Vida Downey, a bank teller, and hopes to win her from her boyfriend, Ralph Hastings. Vida is looking for a way to keep Hickory's boys off the streets; of the groups on her list, only the Boy Scouts remains. Lem volunteers to lead the newly formed Troop 1.

- Follow Me, Boys! was the last film released by Walt Disney Productions in Walt Disney's lifetime, and Disney died exactly two weeks after the film's premiere.
- The title song "Follow Me, Boys!" was written by studio favorites Robert and Richard Sherman, and the Boy Scouts of America later considered using it as their anthem before the effort was dropped.
- Duane Chase, who played Kurt in The Sound of Music, appears uncredited as a Boy Scout in Follow Me, Boys! and left acting after it, afterwards appearing only at Sound of Music reunions.
- Follow Me, Boys! was the final film role for Charles Ruggles, who continued working in television until 1968.
