Did you know?!Facts and trivia about The Story of Dr. Wassell (1944)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- The film was inspired by the real wartime exploits of U.S. Navy Doctor Corydon M. Wassell, which President Roosevelt described in an April 1942 radio broadcast; a section of that broadcast plays near the end of the film.
- Cecil B. DeMille wanted Alan Ladd for the role of Hoppy, but the actor had to go into military service instead, so the part went to someone else.
- Yvonne De Carlo was originally announced to play the film's Javanese nurse, a role she was publicised for before the cast was settled.
