David Hewlett was born on April 18, 1968 in Redhill, Surrey, England as David Ian Hewlett. He is an actor and writer, known for Cube (1997), Stargate: Atlantis (2004) and Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011). He has been married to Jane Loughman since June 21, 2008. They have one child. He was previously married to Soo Garay.

First role
Hewlett launched his acting career while he was attending high school in Toronto, where he starred in student films by Vincenzo Natali.
A change of course
Hewlett is a devoted science fiction fan. He has said that Doctor Who, a sci-fi show from his native Britain, first sparked his love of the genre, and that as a younger man in Britain he made science fiction with friends using his 8 mm camera.
Big break
Hewlett's role as Rodney McKay began as a four-episode guest spot on Stargate SG-1 and grew into his starring role on the spinoff Stargate Atlantis.
A change of course
Before acting became his career, Hewlett ran a website design firm called Darkyl Media and started Fusefilm.com, an internet community for filmmakers.
First role
Hewlett left high school during his senior year to pursue acting and computing. His acting career began in 1984, when he was sixteen.
