Plot summary
Dave and Andrew share a house and a run of bad luck. Dave loses his job after his girlfriend blames him for embezzlement, and Andrew, a travel agent who rarely leaves home, is accused of a crime he did not commit. By day's end the building is scheduled for demolition, with police, city officials and angry neighbors gathered outside. The two hide indoors until they finally open the front door, and the street, the city and everything past their step is gone, replaced by a flat white emptiness. They step out onto the surface, which gives slightly underfoot, and start walking, dropping belongings behind them as a trail to lead them back.

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- David Hewlett and Andrew Miller, who grew up and went to high school with director Vincenzo Natali, performed many scenes in Nothing hanging from the ceiling on wires; Hewlett called the rig a 30-foot atomic wedgie and said Natali hung them like puppets and placed them where he wanted.
- Vincenzo Natali originally envisioned Stan the turtle as the narrator of Nothing, but budget constraints meant the talking turtle could not be realized; Natali said the turtle stood for Dave and Andrew, creatures who carry their home on their back and hide from the world.
