Did you know?!Facts and trivia about A Dog's Breakfast (2007)

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.

  • The science fiction show invented inside the film, Starcrossed, was created as a tribute to Stargate; after people told David Hewlett it should be real, he pitched it to NBC Universal and the Sci Fi Channel, which bought the pilot.
  • David Hewlett wrote the script around the availabilities of those involved, which made it possible to produce A Dog's Breakfast for a total budget of $120,000, mostly privately raised.
  • David Hewlett had planned to shoot at his own house in Washington, but legal problems over its U.S. location forced the otherwise Canadian production to rent a house near Burnaby, British Columbia instead.
  • The Starcrossed spacecraft set in the film is also used on Stargate, where it stands in for several spaceships including the Daedalus-class battlecruisers and the Prometheus.
  • Inspired by The Long Tail, David Hewlett set up a YouTube channel and his own producer blog for $8 a month to keep promotion costs down, a campaign he called Squirrel Marketing.
  • David Hewlett considered Christopher Judge for the role of the "Internet-dating loser" because Judge seemed so inappropriate for the part that Hewlett thought it would be very funny to have him play it.
