Plot summary
The Fords have long been a powerful vampire clan, but their bloodline has weakened through intermarriage. Reverend Alexander Algernon Ford, his mute wife Alicia, and three green-faced vampire women rise from Highgate Cemetery and take up residence at Carfax Abbey. They claim they intend to reopen All Soul's Church, though the Reverend's purpose runs deeper. He intends to reinforce the Ford bloodline by making young Susan Ford a breeder, strengthening the blood his family feeds on and procreates with. Susan is engaged to Paul Donati and pregnant with his child. She comes to the Reverend to ask him to marry her and Paul, and he drugs her sherry.
