Chris Sarandon
Biography
Chris Sarandon is an American actor who was born and raised in Beckley, West Virginia, and earned a master's degree in theater from Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. He began with improvisational companies and regional productions, making his first professional stage appearance in The Rose Tattoo in 1965. After moving to New York City, he had his first television role on The Guiding Light before playing Leon Shermer in Dog Day Afternoon (1975), which brought him Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations. He later took on roles that included Mike Norris in Child's Play (1988), Prince Humperdinck in The Princess Bride (1987), Jerry Dandrige in Fright Night (1985), and the speaking voice of Jack Skellington in The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993). On stage he appeared in The Rothschilds and The Two Gentlemen of Verona, and later in The Light in the Piazza at Lincoln Center, as well as in Cyrano de Bergerac.
