Plot summary
Chris McCormick is twenty-one and the face of a lipstick company's advertising. Since their parents died in a car crash, she has shared an apartment with her fourteen-year-old sister Kathy, a student at a Catholic school. Kathy asks Gordon Stuart, her music teacher, to attend one of Chris's seaside photo shoots so her sister can hear his compositions. The shoot runs long and Chris misses his music, so Stuart arranges to come by the apartment the next day. The appointment has slipped Chris's mind, and she greets him in a robe after a shower. Steve Edison, her boyfriend, phones, and she takes the call in the bedroom. Stuart's anger at what he reads as rejection drives him to attack her. The police arrest him, and district attorney Carla Bondi warns Chris that a conviction will be hard to win.
