Chris-Pin Martin
Biography
Chris-Pin Martin was an American character actor known for comical Mexican roles, especially sidekicks in the Cisco Kid series. Born in Tucson, Arizona, while it was still a territory, he began film work in 1911 as an extra at Universal Studios and also recruited Latino and Latina extras for studios. In 1922 he produced and starred in Tepee Love, a romance with Dolores Contreras. By 1925 he was a common unnamed figure in silent movies, often playing bumbling or slow comic characters who spoke broken English. He made more than 100 films between 1925 and 1953, over 50 of them westerns. His most remembered western part was Gordito, later Pancho, in nine Cisco Kid films. He appeared in John Ford's Stagecoach (1939) with John Wayne and in The Ox-Bow Incident (1943) as Poncho, and he showed skill in both drama and comedy, including a brief role in A Millionaire for Christy (1951) as Manolo.
