Jon Hall
Biography
Jon Hall was an American actor who began his screen career as Charles Locher, making his first film, Women Must Dress, in 1935. A native of Fresno, California, who grew up in Tahiti, he broke through in The Hurricane (1937) as a wrongly imprisoned native, then was contracted to Universal. There he became known for adventurous roles, including Invisible Agent (1942), Arabian Nights (1942), The Invisible Man's Revenge (1944), Cobra Woman (1944), Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves (1944), and Sudan (1945). Earlier he had appeared in Charlie Chan in Shanghai (1935), Winds of the Wasteland (1936), Kit Carson (1940), and The Tuttles of Tahiti (1942). He created and starred in the television series Ramar of the Jungle from 1952 to 1954, and later directed and starred in The Beach Girls and the Monster (1965). He died in 1979.

A first
Hall went back to Universal for The Invisible Man's Revenge in 1944. He was the only actor in the original Universal series to play an Invisible Man on more than one occasion.
First role
Hall's first performance was in a local theater production of M'Lord the Duke, where he replaced Robert Taylor, who had just signed with MGM.
A role that slipped away
Jon Hall tried out for the starring role in the Flash Gordon serial, but he did not get the part.
A change of course
Hall was both an inventor and a highly skilled aviator. He held patents for optivision lenses, an underwater camera, and the hull design of US Navy PT boats.
Behind the camera
Jon Hall both directed and starred in The Beach Girls and the Monster, a cult horror film that came out in 1965.
About the name
Hall adopted the screen name "Lloyd Crane", then in 1936 he put his signature on a contract with Major Pictures.
