Biography

Antonio Fargas is an American actor known for blaxploitation and comedy films of the 1970s and for playing Huggy Bear in the television series Starsky & Hutch. Born in New York City and raised in Spanish Harlem, he landed a breakout role in the comedy Putney Swope (1969), then starred in a run of blaxploitation pictures that included Across 110th Street (1972) and Foxy Brown (1974). Playing the streetwise informant Huggy Bear brought him wide recognition. Later he nodded to those early parts in the spoof I'm Gonna Git You Sucka (1988) and in Don't Be a Menace (1996), and he guest-starred in 1990s sitcoms including Living Single, Martin and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. He played Toledo in a 2006 revival of August Wilson's Ma Rainey's Black Bottom and had a regular role as Doc on Everybody Hates Chris.
