Plot summary
Cookie is a teenage runaway, and she and her younger brother leave an Upstate New York home where their mother is loveless and their stepfather abusive. They make their way to New York City, and at the Port Authority bus terminal, with nowhere to go, Cookie meets a pimp named Duke, whose charm draws her to him. She falls in love with him, and he soon has her working as a prostitute on the city's streets. Duke is brutal toward the women who work for him, and the trade he introduces Cookie to is a harsh and dangerous one.

- Director Freeman was a documentary filmmaker who wanted to move into dramatic features; when Roger Corman was reluctant to finance her film about vice, she and her husband wrote a short film, Brainwash, about a girl kidnapped by a cult, and Corman was impressed enough to agree to make Streetwalkin'.
- Roger Corman let director Freeman shoot Streetwalkin' on location in New York, the first time he had allowed a production to shoot there.
