Plot summary
Liz stands on a downtown Los Angeles street near a tunnel, stopping cars and telling the audience about her life. A van pulls up and she waves it on, remembering an earlier night when the men inside attacked and raped her; a passerby stopped to help her. She is also trying to get away from Blake, her controlling pimp, who finds her in a convenience store and demands money. Sitting in a strip club with a drink, she explains how she got here: a small-town girl whose husband, Charlie, was a violent drunk, she left him and took their son, then worked nights at a diner, where a customer's offer of money for sex began her trade. She worked on her own until she met Blake, who brought her to Los Angeles.

- Hines got the project made by literally jumping out of his cab in the street to stop director Ken Russell and ask him on the spot to write and direct it as a film.
- Distributor Vidmark released a version retitled "If You Can't Say It, Just See It" so stores uncomfortable displaying the word "Whore" could still stock it, and donated part of the video's proceeds to Children of the Night, a charity helping teenagers escape prostitution.
- Presumably to save on crew expenses, director Ken Russell is listed as the camera operator in the film's production credits, under the name Alf.
- The screenplay was based on a one-person play called Bondage, written by London taxi driver David Hines after a real conversation he had with a prostitute he had once driven.
- Russell had to move the story from London to Los Angeles and finance the film in the United States after a number of British film financiers turned the project down over its "frank language".
- Actresses Theresa Russell and Ginger Lynn Allen both later said that director Ken Russell drank openly and was frequently drunk while directing the shoot.
- Ireland banned the film outright in August 1991, and even after an appeal hearing that August failed to reach a decision, the ban was upheld the following month.
