Plot summary
The Japanese ambassador Sakaguchi travels toward Washington in 1870 with a ceremonial tachi that the emperor sends to the president, and a samurai escort. Link Stuart and Gauche lead a gang that robs the train and its gold shipment. Gauche takes the tachi, and his men throw dynamite into the car where Link lies. Kuroda, the only samurai guard to survive the raid, is given one week to recover the sword, or he and the ambassador must take their own lives. The ambassador asks Link to help Kuroda, and Link, who wants his share of the stolen money, agrees to ride with him, though he keeps looking for a way out.
