Biography
Capucine was a French actress and model who became known for comic roles, among them The Pink Panther (1963) and the comedy What's New Pussycat? (1965). Born Germaine Hélène Irène Lefebvre in Saint-Raphaël, France, she was spotted by a photographer in Paris in 1945 and modeled for Givenchy and Christian Dior. She had an unbilled first role in The Eagle with Two Heads (1948), directed by Jean Cocteau. Producer Charles K. Feldman brought her to Hollywood after seeing her model in New York; in 1958 Columbia Pictures gave her a contract lasting seven years. Her English-language debut came in Song Without End (1960), and she earned a Golden Globe nomination that year. She played opposite John Wayne in North to Alaska (1960). Blake Edwards cast her as Inspector Clouseau's wife in The Pink Panther (1963), and she later appeared in Trail of the Pink Panther (1982). Her films included Fellini Satyricon (1969) and Red Sun (1971). She died in 1990.

Capucine was discovered at 17 in 1945 when a commercial photographer noticed her riding in a carriage in Paris, which led to her becoming a fashion model for Givenchy and Christian Dior.
