Plot summary
Three years after Elsa took the throne, she alone hears a melody calling to her at night. The elemental spirits then stir, and Arendelle's people must leave their homes; Grand Pabbie tells the sisters that an old wrong has angered the forest and must be set right. Elsa, Anna, Olaf, Kristoff and Sven travel to the Enchanted Forest, sealed behind mist, where Northuldra and Arendellian soldiers have long been in conflict. Elsa's magic clears a path inside, and finding no way back out, the group follows the call deeper among the trees. Kristoff looks for the right moment to propose to Anna.

- The Northuldra dam in Frozen 2 reflects real Sámi history: a hydroelectric station built on Norway's Altaelva river from 1979 to 1981 created the Virdnejávr Dam, which flooded a Sámi village and disrupted traditional hunting and herding.

About a dozen animators and artists spent two months on an elaborate resurrection scene for Olaf, but the scene was cut from the finished film.- After a test screening in San Diego showed that children found Frozen 2 hard to follow, the animators created 61 new shots and redid another 35, and an expository dialogue scene was replaced with Olaf's humorous recap of the first film.
- The first Frozen 2 trailer, released on February 13, 2019, drew 116.4 million views in 24 hours, making it the most-watched animated film trailer until Inside Out 2's teaser passed that record in November 2023.
- Songwriter Kristen Anderson-Lopez confirmed Elsa would have no female love interest in Frozen 2 despite some fans wanting one, and director Jennifer Lee said Elsa's main audience did not seem ready for such a relationship.
- The four-note call of the mysterious Voice in Frozen 2 was derived from the Latin sequence "Dies irae" and is delivered in a manner resembling kulning, a Scandinavian music form.
- For the Northuldra tribe, the filmmakers collaborated with Sámi experts through Verdett, an advisory group set up by an agreement between the Walt Disney Company, the transnational Saami Council, and the Sámi parliaments of Finland, Norway, and Sweden.
- Creating the personal flurry effect was so difficult for the animators that the directors had Elsa put a permafrost coating on Olaf in Frozen 2 instead.
