Trailer

Plot summary

Migo lives in a yeti village high above the clouds, where the Stonekeeper's stones set the rules: the sun is woken by a gong rung with the head, and smallfoots, or humans, are only legend. Migo trains to become gong ringer like his father Dorgle, but during practice he is distracted by Meechee, the Stonekeeper's daughter, and tumbles off the mountain. A plane crashes nearby, and Migo sees a human. The wind carries the man away before Migo can show anyone, and with no proof, the Stonekeeper accuses him of calling the stones wrong and banishes him. Rejected yetis Gwangi, Kolka and Fleem bring him to the Smallfoot Evidentiary Society, led by Meechee, who urges him to travel below the clouds. In town, wildlife filmmaker Percy Patterson, whose show has lost its audience, wants a yeti on camera.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Smallfoot (2018)

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.

  • The film originally had no songs until six months into production, when the suggestion of making it a musical came from Toby Emmerich, newly elected chairman of the Warner Bros. Pictures Group, partly because the Kirkpatrick brothers had written the Tony-winning Broadway musical Something Rotten!.
  • Ely Henry was originally hired to record a scratch vocal four years before the film's release, but was later invited to join the cast and ended up voicing Fleem in the final product.
  • Director Karey Kirkpatrick joined the project in July 2016 and reworked it: Percy had been a "ski bum type" with no motivation, Meechee was undeveloped and became head of the S.E.S., and Kirkpatrick drew inspiration from observing Brexit and a rise in nationalism.
  • A series of posters in Los Angeles advertising the cast with phrases such as "Zendaya is Meechee" turned into a minor Internet meme, in a short song by Gabriel Gundacker.
