Tempest's forces overwhelm the city's defenses and petrify the princesses. Twilight gets away with Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy, Rarity and the baby dragon Spike after Celestia's parting words, cut off mid-sentence, send them south beyond the badlands in search of a hippo queen. - The film was animated with Toon Boom Harmony rather than the Adobe Flash software used on the Friendship Is Magic television series, because the Flash look was considered too cheap for a theatrical film.
