Plot summary
Ellie King is recently widowed, mourning her husband and her daughter. She spends Christmas with her brother, Aaron Davis, and his children. She becomes friends with Mrs. Thompson, the local shop keeper, and meets Deputy Strode, who admires her. Aaron has also taken in Erik, a young man whose outlaw father abandoned him. Aaron leaves town to buy land for farming, and Ellie agrees to watch his children. Christmas is threatened when Aaron goes missing.
