Plot summary
In 1914, fifteen-year-old Winnie Foster lives with her upper-class family in Treegap and wants a say in her own life. When she is told she will go to a boarding school, she runs off into the woods. There she finds Jesse Tuck at a spring beneath a great tree. Jesse's older brother Miles kidnaps her and takes her to the Tucks' home, where the family says they will return her once they can trust her. Winnie falls for Jesse. The Tucks drank from that spring about a hundred years earlier and cannot age or be hurt.
