Plot summary
Belinda Tyler is set on becoming a doctor at a time when women are rarely allowed careers, and she believes God has called her to medicine. She proves her ability while helping the local doctor and nursing Mrs. Stafford-Smith, an older woman who had a stroke, back to health. Drew Simpson, the nephew of a neighbor who has died, comes to town to ready his uncle's farm for sale. He intends to return to New York City afterward to practice law with his father and does not want to remain in the small town. After he meets Belinda, he reconsiders, and she has feelings for him too. Her plan is to become a doctor and then come home to care for her family and neighbors, and Mrs. Stafford-Smith offers to send her to medical school in Boston.
