Plot summary
An atomic-powered rocket has vanished from radar somewhere in the South Pacific, and Major Joe Nolan is sent to bring it back. He flies out with Lieutenant Danny Wilson, who pilots the plane, Sergeant William Tatlow, the mechanic, and the three men who built the rocket: Robert Phillips, Stanley Briggs and Michael Rostov. Their aircraft comes down on a small unknown island in the area where the rocket was lost. Only a native woman lives there with her young brother. She shows the men that something fell out of the sky, and the fire of its arrival sent the rest of the islanders away. A steep, taboo mountain rises above them, and the rocket appears to have come down on its plateau.

- The film's dinosaur scenes were later riffed on Mystery Science Theater 3000, where host Michael J. Nelson appeared in a segment playing actor Hugh Beaumont as one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.
- To create an eerie, other-worldly look, the black-and-white footage set atop the prehistoric escarpment was tinted a mint-green color on every theatrical release print.
- The film's scene of two dueling Triceratops turned up years later in "It's a Good Life", a Season 3 episode of The Twilight Zone.
