Acquanetta
Biography
Acquanetta was an American B-movie actress of the 1940s and 1950s, remembered for an exotic screen beauty and nicknamed The Venezuelan Volcano. She began working as a model in New York for Harry Conover and John Robert Powers before Universal Studios signed her in 1942. At Universal she made pictures such as Arabian Nights, Jungle Woman (1944), The Sword of Monte Cristo (1951) and Captive Wild Woman, and the studio tried to turn her into the star of a female monster series in which she changed into an ape. When her Universal contract ended, she went to Monogram Pictures, where no films resulted, and afterward to RKO for Tarzan and the Leopard Woman (1946), the only big-budget production she made. Acquanetta died in 2004.
