Plot summary
Months after becoming a bear, Kenai lives with his foster brother Koda. Waking from hibernation, the two set out for Crowberry Ridge and the season's first berries, but Kenai keeps seeing Nita, the childhood friend he once saved from drowning and gave a special amulet. Nita is grown and about to wed Atka, who comes from a neighboring Inuit village, until a storm splits the ground between them on the wedding day. Taking it as a sign, she consults Innoko, the wisest shaman, who learns from the Spirits that the amulet joined Nita and Kenai. To marry Atka she must find Kenai and burn the amulet at Hokani Falls on the eve of the Equinox, so Innoko grants her the speech of animals.

- Patrick Dempsey took over as the voice of Kenai in Brother Bear 2 from Joaquin Phoenix, who had voiced him in the first film, and Jason Marsden had originally been cast as Kenai before Dempsey replaced him.
- Jason Raize, who voiced Denahi in the first Brother Bear, died in 2004, so his character Denahi was left out of Brother Bear 2.
- The producer of Brother Bear 2, Jim Ballantine, was taken off the project during production and replaced with Carolyn Bates.
