Plot summary
An asteroid misses Earth rather than striking it, so the dinosaurs survive and evolve. Arlo is a timid young Apatosaurus on a farm worked by his parents and his brother Buck and sister Libby, and he cannot manage the chores his siblings handle. Hoping to build his confidence, his father sets him to guard the family's corn silo, where a feral caveboy keeps stealing food. Arlo cannot bring himself to harm the boy and lets him go. When the caveboy raids the silo again, Arlo chases him into the river, and the current carries the two of them far from the farm. Far from home, Arlo has the caveboy, whom he calls Spot, for company as he tries to find his way back.

- The Good Dinosaur became Pixar's first box office failure, grossing $332.2 million against a $175-200 million budget and losing Disney an estimated $85 million.
- The film's troubled production led Pixar to lay off 67 of its roughly 1,200 employees in November 2013, a month after the studio closed its Pixar Canada branch and cut about 80 more jobs there.
- Original director Bob Peterson was removed from the project in mid-2013 after the filmmakers couldn't solve persistent story problems in the film's third act.
