Nick Dennis
Biography
Nick Dennis was a Greek American actor, born in Thessaly, Greece, who came to the United States in 1914 and grew up partly in Lowell, Massachusetts, where he attended public schools. He studied at the University of Illinois for two years before starting in films in 1947, and he became known for ethnic roles, most often Greek ones. Fluent in Greek, he first played Pablo Gonzales in the stage version of A Streetcar Named Desire and repeated the part in the 1951 film. His other screen work included the Humphrey Bogart film Sirocco (1951) and Kiss Me Deadly (1955). On television he was seen in programs from the 1950s into the 1970s, among them the medical drama Ben Casey, as the orderly Nick Kanavaras, and the detective show Kojak, as Uncle Constantine. He died in 1980.
