Plot summary
In May 1944, a peregrine falcon called General Von Talon ambushes a Royal Homing Pigeon Service flight over the English Channel and takes the pigeon Mercury prisoner. Far away in West Nestington, a wood pigeon named Valiant watches a propaganda film in the bar kept by his friend Felix, then hears the war hero Gutsy call for recruits in Trafalgar Square. Valiant sets off for London and falls in with Bugsy, a pigeon running from magpie thugs he cheated at a shell game, and the pair enlist. Squad F pairs them with the scholarly Lofty and the brothers Toughwood and Tailfeather, and training under Sergeant Monty begins, while Valiant is taken with Victoria, the camp's nursing dove.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Valiant (2005)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Valiant's story of war pigeons was inspired by the real history of hundreds of homing pigeons that carried messages for Allied soldiers during World War II.
- Line producer Tom Jacomb said feathers were by far the hardest technical challenge on Valiant, bluntly stating that 'all' of the production's problems came down to rendering them, calling feathers a 'misery in computer animation.'
- Valiant held the record for the lowest box-office gross of any CGI animated film until the 2006 English dub of The Magic Roundabout, released as Doogal, took over that distinction.
