Biography

Ricky Gervais is an English comedian who also writes, directs, produces and acts. He started out in the music industry before moving into comedy in the mid to late 1990s, and came to national attention on Channel 4's satirical The 11 O'Clock Show. With Stephen Merchant he helped create and starred in the BBC mock documentary sitcom The Office, which ran from 2001 to 2003, and the pair followed it with Extras (2005 to 2007) and Life's Too Short (2011 to 2013). Gervais also wrote and starred in the comedy drama series Derek and After Life (2019 to 2022), and his stand-up career started in the late 1990s, with five multi-national tours since. His film work includes Night at the Museum (2006), Ghost Town (2008), The Invention of Lying (2009), Cemetery Junction (2010) and Muppets Most Wanted (2014). He has won seven BAFTA Television Awards and five Golden Globes, and hosted the Golden Globe Awards five times.
