Malik Yoba

Biography

Malik Yoba is an American actor born in the Bronx and raised in Harlem. He began playing Detective J. C. Williams in 1994 on the Fox police series New York Undercover, opposite Michael DeLorenzo. The show was the first American police drama to put two actors of color in its leading roles, and his work earned him three straight NAACP Image Awards from 1996 to 1998 for outstanding dramatic performance. On screen he has been seen as Yul Brenner in Cool Runnings (1993) and in Criminal (2004), and as Gavin in Why Did I Get Married? (2007) and its follow-up Why Did I Get Married Too? (2010). His television credits include Alphas, Revolution, Empire and Designated Survivor, plus a role in the Netflix drama Seven Seconds. A singer and stage performer, he had the lead in His Woman His Wife and brought his one-man show Harlem to Hollywood to the Apollo Theater in 2019.
