Plot summary
Torchy Blane, a reporter, is covering a string of bank robberies when a policeman stops her for speeding and takes her to court for driving without her license. In the courtroom she sees Jackie McGuire, who has been sentenced to jail for shoplifting and is known as the girlfriend of the robber Denver Eddie. Torchy asks Lt. Steve McBride to send her back to jail so she can get close to Jackie and follow the case from inside. When Jackie suggests the two of them break out, Torchy tells Steve the reward for Eddie's capture would give them the money to marry, and he agrees to help. With the police cooperating, Torchy and Jackie head for San Francisco, where Jackie expects to meet Eddie, and Steve and Gahagan follow them there.
