Plot summary
Charlie plays his violin in a bar to raise money, and his playing stirs a rivalry with competing musicians that ends in a barroom brawl. He wanders into the countryside near a gypsy caravan and meets Edna, a young woman the gypsies have abducted and abused. Their chieftain whips her. Charlie comes to her rescue, drives off her tormentors with a stick, and takes her away in a cart. Love develops between them as he washes her face and combs her hair.

- In 1932, Amedee Van Beuren's Van Beuren Studios bought Charlie Chaplin's Mutual comedies for $10,000 each, added music by Gene Rodemich and Winston Sharples plus sound effects, and re-released them through RKO Radio Pictures. Chaplin had no legal recourse to stop the RKO release.
