Plot summary
Jimmie Shannon is the junior partner at Meekin and Shannon, a brokerage house close to ruin. A lawyer the partners have dodged finally reaches him with the news of his grandfather's will: seven million dollars if he is married by seven o'clock that evening, his twenty-seventh birthday. Jimmie hurries to his sweetheart, Mary Jones, who accepts his proposal. When he clumsily explains why the wedding has to be that day, she breaks it off. At the country club, his partner urges him to propose to someone else.

- Buster Keaton hated the play and owed money to producer Joseph Schenck, so he had to make Seven Chances to settle the debt; a week after shooting began on September 16, 1924, director John McDermott quit, telling Keaton he was wasting thousands of dollars.
- While filming the rock avalanche, one of the fake but very heavy boulders briefly pinned Buster Keaton to the ground and gave him a painful leg injury.
- For the avalanche sequence, Buster Keaton had 150 fake boulders made of papier-mâché and chicken wire in various sizes, up to 8 ft in diameter.
- Keaton cast Doris Deane as one of the seven would-be fiancées as a favor to his friend Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle, to whom Deane was engaged.
- The International Buster Keaton Society recreated the film's "Bridal Run" in the streets of Muskegon, Michigan, at its 2010 convention.
