Robert Webber
Biography
Robert Webber was an American actor whose screen career lasted about forty years, known for a polished, hard-edged presence that suited elegant but often shady businessmen. Born in Santa Ana, California, he served in the Marine Corps during World War II, then went to New York and worked in summer stock before his Broadway debut in Two Blind Mice. His first film role was a gangster in Highway 301 (1950). He became a steady supporting player, with notable parts including Juror No. 12 in 12 Angry Men, released in 1957, and a brigadier general in The Dirty Dozen (1967). Other films included The Sandpiper (1965), The Silencers (1966), Harper (1966), Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia, Midway (1976), Revenge of the Pink Panther (1978), 10 (1979), Private Benjamin (1980), S.O.B. (1981), and Wild Geese II (1985). On television he guest-starred in many popular dramas, including Moonlighting, and he worked often with director Blake Edwards.

Robert Webber hitchhiked to New York City after his military discharge, hoping to become an actor. He did two seasons of summer stock, then made his Broadway debut in Two Blind Mice, which starred Melvyn Douglas.
A change of course
During World War II, Webber joined the United States Marine Corps in 1943. He was a 776-Radio Operator (Low Speed) with the 1st Marine Amphibious Corps, then the 6th Marine Division, in Guam and Okinawa.
