Plot summary
Derek Flint, an ex-agent of Z.O.W.I.E., is brought out of retirement when the world's intelligence agencies face a crisis. Galaxy, a worldwide organization, is led by three mad scientists, Doctor Krupov, Doctor Wu and Doctor Schneider, who want every nation to capitulate. Their climate-control apparatus sends earthquakes, volcanoes and storms at countries, pressing governments to disband their armies and give up nuclear energy. Cramden, Flint's former chief, calls him back. At a restaurant where Flint dines with his four companions, Leslie, Anna, Gina and Sakito, Galaxy's section head Gila takes the harpist's place and fires a poisoned dart that misses Flint and strikes Cramden. Flint squeezes the poison from the wound.

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- James Coburn had built a career on supporting roles such as The Americanization of Emily and A High Wind in Jamaica, and Derek Flint was the first time he led a feature. His casting was announced in December 1964 and shooting started that February.
- Jerry Goldsmith's ringtone for Cramden's presidential hotline outlived the film: it turned up in Hudson Hawk and in Seattle's The J.P. Patches Show, and KIIS-FM disc jockey Rick Dees used it as his hotline sound whenever his station manager rang to shout at him.
