Plot summary
The French Revolution is in full swing, and Citizen Robespierre's guillotine is taking the heads of the aristocracy. Word of the slaughter reaches England, where Sir Rodney Ffing and Lord Darcy Pue, two noblemen who like to pass themselves off as fops, have grown bored with country pursuits. They decide to help their French counterparts, and Rodney, a master of disguise, crosses into France as the Black Fingernail, leaving a calling card of two digits behind him. Citizen Camembert and his lackey Citizen Bidet, who lead the secret police, scour the country for this elusive savior of the nobles, and Robespierre threatens Camembert with the guillotine unless he captures him.
