Plot summary
Law-abiding citizens in Metropolis, Gotham City and beyond begin killing people they believe to be demons, and the Justice League concludes that magic is responsible. Batman is not convinced, and when the name Constantine appears on the walls of Wayne Manor, he asks Zatanna to help him find the occult detective. Deadman joins them, and the two lead Batman to the House of Mystery, where John Constantine agrees, reluctantly, to look into the supernatural crimes. He and Zatanna bring the group to Ritchie Simpson, an old acquaintance of theirs who collects magic relics. Ritchie, suffering from a magical cancer, resents Constantine for abandoning him to it, yet he lends them an artifact that lets Constantine and Zatanna step into the memory of one of the victims.
