Warren Stevens
Biography
Warren Stevens was an American actor who built a long career across stage, film, and television. Born in Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania, he was among the founders of the Actors Studio in New York and attracted attention on Broadway in the late 1940s, starting with The Life of Galileo in 1947. That attention led to a contract at 20th Century Fox, and his first film role came in The Frogmen (1951). Early on he had little choice of material, appearing in Phone Call from a Stranger (1952) and The Barefoot Contessa (1954) with Humphrey Bogart. He also took on a memorable role as the ill-fated Doc Ostrow in Forbidden Planet (1956). When major film parts did not come consistently, Stevens shifted to television, co-starring in Tales of the 77th Bengal Lancers, playing Elliot Carson on Return to Peyton Place, and appearing in more than 150 prime time shows, including The Twilight Zone and Star Trek.

A change of course
Stevens took occasional roles in big films but never became a consistent A-list movie star, so he built a career as a journeyman dramatic actor in television.
