Ford Rainey

Biography

Ford Rainey was an American actor who worked in film, stage, and television. Born in Mountain Home, Idaho, he first acted on stage in high school, studied at the Cornish School in Seattle, and later trained at the Michael Chekhov Theatre Studio in Connecticut. He worked at Seattle radio stations before making his film debut in White Heat (1949), and he became a familiar face in movies. His film credits included Two Rode Together (1961), 40 Pounds of Trouble (1962), The Sand Pebbles (1966), The Gypsy Moths (1969), The Traveling Executioner (1970), Halloween II (1981), and Inferno (1999). On television, he co-starred in Window on Main Street, was a regular on The Richard Boone Show, and played Dr. Barnett on Search and Police Chief Vernon on Tenafly. He also guest-starred on many series and appeared in the TV movies My Sweet Charlie, A Howling in the Woods, and The Stranger Who Looks Like Me. Rainey died in 2005.

Before he became a successful actor, Rainey worked odd jobs. These included logging, fishing, picking fruit, carpentry and clam digging, plus work on an oil tanker.
