Valeria Golino
Biography
Valeria Golino is an Italian actress and filmmaker who entered the business by chance, meeting director Lina Wertmüller and winning a role in A Joke of Destiny (1983) despite never having studied acting. She left modeling behind for independent Italian films, and My Dearest Son and Little Flames brought a Globo d'oro for breakthrough actress, while A Tale of Love earned her the Best Actress prize at the 1986 Venice Film Festival. English-language viewers know her from Big Top Pee-wee (1988), Rain Man (1988), where she played the girlfriend of Tom Cruise's character, and the comedy spoofs Hot Shots! (1991) and Hot Shots! Part Deux (1993). Her subsequent credits include Like the Wind (2013). She also directs, with the features Honey (2013) and Euforia (2018) both screened at Cannes, and has won David di Donatello, Silver Ribbon and Ciak d'oro awards.
