Plot summary
Ivan Beckman is a film agent in Los Angeles who has reached the top of his business. A cancer diagnosis comes to him, and he chooses to keep working, forcing a smile with clients and colleagues. Don West, an international star, is the agency's biggest client, the account Ivan must hold on to, and he brings West onto the company's books. The days that follow hold highs, lows and excesses for Ivan as he moves through Los Angeles. The story draws on Leo Tolstoy's novella The Death of Ivan Ilyich, published in 1886, and on the career of the talent agent Jay Moloney.
