Plot summary
Léo Vrinks leads the BRI and Denis Klein the BRB, two branches of the Paris criminal police, and both want to replace their chief, Robert Mancini, who is moving up. Mancini tells them the promotion goes to the man who catches a gang that has been robbing armored cars and killing. Camille, Vrinks' wife, was once Klein's lover, which sharpens the rivalry. Vrinks works with loyal officers and unsavory informants; Klein drinks heavily, his ethics are loose, and his marriage is strained. When a bartender is beaten and robbed by a man named Bruno, Vrinks and his team abduct Bruno, stage a mock execution in a forest, warn him off and leave him there. Klein has informants of his own and is watching the case.
