Biography

Jack Murdock was an American actor and television host, raised in Urbana, Ohio, by vaudeville performers: his father led Teck Murdock and Company and his mother and her sister performed as The Kennedy Sisters. After Navy service in World War II, he earned a speech degree from Ohio State University and directed at WBNS-TV in Columbus, also hosting an afternoon show with Jonathan Winters. He arrived in the St. Louis area in 1953 to direct and star in Coffee Break, then hosted Apartment Eleven and, as Kronos, the film showcase Zone 2, while acting in local stage productions at The Muny. He also played Mr. Willoughby on Treehouse Time and Grandpa Pidgeon in commercials for the GrandPa's discount chain. In 1968 he left for Broadway, toured in theater, and later settled in Los Angeles, appearing in Big Top Pee-wee (1988) among some fifty films made between 1973 and 1998. He died in 2001.
