Steven Berkoff
Biography
Steven Berkoff is an English actor, playwright and theater director who was born in Stepney, London, in 1937 and trained at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art and later in physical theater and mime with Jacques Lecoq. He began in repertory at His Majesty's Theatre in Barrow-in-Furness in 1962 and went on to develop a heightened performance style known as Berkovian theater, staging his own plays such as East, Greek, Decadence and Sink the Belgrano!. On screen he became known for villainous parts, among them General Orlov in Octopussy (1983), Victor Maitland in Beverly Hills Cop (1984), Lieutenant Colonel Podovsky in Rambo: First Blood Part II (1985) and George Cornell in The Krays (1990). His films include Barry Lyndon (1975), The Passenger (1975), Outland (1981), The Tourist (2010) and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011), and he directed and starred in Decadence (1994). Shakespeare's Villains earned him an Olivier Award nomination.

Early training
In June and July 1962, Berkoff spent roughly two months training in the Repertory Company at His Majesty's Theatre in Barrow-in-Furness.
A first
Berkoff's first directorial job at the Royal National Theatre was a revival of Oscar Wilde's Salome, performed in slow motion, which opened at the Lyttelton Auditorium in November 1989.
Beyond film
Berkoff did the voice-over for an N-Trance single called "The Mind of the Machine". In August 1997 it climbed to No. 15 on the UK singles chart.

Berkoff voiced General Lente, commander of the Helghan Third Army, in Killzone, and provided motion capture and voice performance as General Flying Fox in the PlayStation 3 game Heavenly Sword.
