Plot summary
On July 4, 1776, fur trapper Tom Dobb sails into New York harbor with his son Ned, carrying furs, while a crowd pulls down a statue of King George III. The mob seizes his boat and cargo and gives him only a note for future payment, leaving the two homeless. Ned signs up with the Continental Army as a drummer; Tom enlists as well so the boy will not go to war alone. Daisy McConnahay, the daughter of a wealthy merchant, reads the Declaration of Independence in her mother's carriage, then nurses wounded soldiers and brings food to the troops. Out in the fields she finds Tom and Ned and gives them something to eat.

- Goldcrest Films put £15,603,000 into Revolution and got back only £5,987,000, a loss of £9,616,000 that played a key role in the collapse of the studio.
- After the withering criticism aimed at Revolution, star Al Pacino took a four-year break from films, not returning until 1989's Sea of Love.
- Composer John Corigliano was so unhappy with how his Revolution score was mixed and dubbed in the final cut that he went back to concert works and did not score another film until The Red Violin in 1999.
- RCA Records canceled its planned Revolution soundtrack after the film failed; the masters, thought lost, were found mislabelled in a vault in 2007 and issued on CD by Varèse Sarabande in 2009.
- A film about the American Revolution was largely shot in England: the main battles were staged at Burrator Reservoir on Dartmoor and on cliffs near Challaborough Bay, South Devon, where a wooden fort was built, with extras from community theater groups.
