Plot summary
The actress Samantha Taylor throws a surprise party for the forty-second birthday of her boyfriend, the composer George Webber, who takes the milestone badly. From his car he glimpses a bride on the way to her wedding and is instantly struck by her looks; following her to the church, he hits a police cruiser and is stung by a bee. That night he and Samantha quarrel about how he treats women and about his habit of watching a neighbor's intimate encounters with the neighbor's consent. The minister who married the couple tells George the bride's name, Jenny Miles, and that her father is a Beverly Hills dentist. At a dental appointment George learns that Jenny and her husband David are honeymooning in Mexico, and he flies after them.

- 10 was due to start filming on October 2, 1978 on a budget of $5-6 million, but George Segal didn't show up and the production was canceled; Dudley Moore came in as a last-minute replacement, the script was rewritten, and Blake Edwards sued Segal and won $270,000.
- The film brought renewed fame to Maurice Ravel's Boléro, whose music was still under copyright at the time: sales generated an estimated $1 million in royalties and briefly made Ravel the best-selling classical composer, 40 years after his death.
